About BEN

Ben Koenig is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC under supervision) in the State of Missouri.  He holds a Master of Arts in both Professional Counseling and Applied Educational Psychology from Webster University.  Ben’s work with adolescents, adults, and couples and relationships emphasizes healthy and mindful navigation of challenges that are common to the human experience, while honoring each person’s unique and distinctive needs throughout.

At the core of Ben’s approach to counseling is a sense of warmth, non-judgement, unconditional positive regard, as well as an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and cultural responsiveness.  He has particular interest and experience working with persons regarding the development of self-identity (including LGBTQ+ identity),  disjointed or broken relationships, marital/relational counseling,  understanding intellectual giftedness (including experiences of asynchrony and multi-potentiality), self-confidence, navigating significant life transitions, and overcoming feelings of being “stuck” in life.

From Ben:

Struggle is an inevitable part of being human, and so is the recognition and development of our capacity for resilience and positive growth.  Conflicting messages from family, friends, coworkers, and media may eventually cause us turn our own thoughts against ourselves.  Counseling involves unraveling all of this, discovering the messages in our own lives and minds, and evaluating their connection to our struggles.  With time and intention, hurtful myths can be laid to rest, and new, more helpful narratives can be created in their place.  My greatest hope is to be alongside you as you reorient yourself in this way, recognizing and seizing your courage and inherent gifts.  Healing and change are possible — they are waiting for you to claim!

Meanings are not determined by situations, but we determine ourselves by the meanings we give to situations.
