About laura

Laura Brackett is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Missouri.  She holds a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL), and is also Director of Community Engagement, meaning it’s her job to interface with other organizations in the community needing support or connection. Laura has extensive experience helping adults and adolescents on a wide variety of emotional and relationship issues.

Laura works to create an open and comfortable space where clients can discover who they are and where they are headed.  Her approach emphasizes companionship and guiding, rather than judgment or playing the expert.

She enjoys working with couples of all sexual and relationship orientations who are struggling in their relationships; professional helpers experiencing burnout from their work including first-responders, medical and mental health professionals, or community activists; as well as adulttransitioning into new phases of life such as marriage, divorce, career changes, job loss, parenthood, young adults transitioning into the adult world, or those seeking to understand LGBTQ+ identities or related struggles.

From Laura:

People are at once complex and simple; while our histories, relationships, cultures, and belief systems cause us to grow up and show up in radically different ways, at our core, all of us embody the needs to survive and to connect.  We develop strategies as children or teenagers to get our needs met, but may arrive at situations in our adult lives where these strategies are interrupted, stop working well, or actually seem to cause as many problems as they solve.  Counseling is a relationship where you can connect and trust someone enough to radically be yourself in the hopes of recognizing all of this, and moving toward a greater understanding of yourself and your world.  Together, we can discover that you are brave enough to change what no longer serves you.”

Maybe who we are isn’t so much about what we do, but rather, what we’re capable of when we least expect it.
