zach polk, MSMFT, LMFT
Zachary Polk is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Missouri and holds a Master of Science (MS) from the COAMFTE–accredited Marital and Family Therapy program at Loma Linda University. He is fully certified as a Gestalt Therapist through the rigorous and extensive training and certification process of Gestalt Associates Training, Los Angeles, and has extensive knowledge of Narrative Therapy and has trained at the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy.
Zach is also Change, Inc.’s Transition & Triage Director (DTT), meaning it’s his job to ensure a smooth transition for clients who are being referred to help outside our environment (for example, in-patient substance abuse treatment) and to help clients return to our environment when they’re done, as well as to serve as a point of evaluation and decision for client movement within our environment.
Zachary has rich clinical experience with individuals, couples, and families on issues related to substance abuse/addiction, childhood trauma, and identity development (including LGBTQ+ issues). He also has a passion for working with couples and families experiencing intense conflict, which inspired him to pursue certification in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, an evidence-based practice from his training at the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. By helping clients examine the ways they interact and attempt to meet their needs, Zach’s approach provides a unique opportunity for them to recognize and celebrate differences.
“All people have a desire to be comfortable with themselves, but that desire is often interrupted by life, which tends to dictate what we should be doing and how we should be doing it. In that light, I am interested in helping you uncover what may be getting in the way of you being you. My priority is to provide a safe environment in which to explore and try out new and authentic ways of relating to yourself and others, in the hopes of discovering the confidence, vitality, and compassion hidden within you.”
