About MADISON

Madison Mertz is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC under supervision)(supervisor) in the State of Missouri.  She holds a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL), with a certificate in Career Counseling.  Madison has experience helping adults and adolescents with a wide variety of emotional and relationship issues suchg as anxiety, depression, life transitions,  trauma and post traumatic stress (PTSD), and gender/identity (including LGBTQ+).

Madison believes strongly in the power of unconditional positive regard, and in meeting clients where they are with the warmth and trust required to create a safe space.  Within that space, clients find the necessary support and empathy for self-expression, which leads in time to a better understanding of the root/origin of their struggles.  From the vantage point of a trusted guide and fellow sojourner, Madison strikes a delicate balance to help clients recognize and challenge counterproductive elements of their stories, while at the same time to acknowledge and hold space for factors beyond their control.  She loves to work with artists, teachers, and anyone who might be in a transitional stage of life or looking to enter into one.

From Madison:
“The stories we tell ourselves about the world and about our own abilities can propel us forward or hold us back.  Only by fully understanding our stories and the way we tell them can we understand where our narratives are serving us and where they are hindering us.  This work is key in developing a new outlook and beginning to create the life you want, with the ultimate goal of living a life that is authentic to who you are and what you believe in.  It is difficult work, but it is so worth it!

I still think of myself as a very ‘human’ being. I have the full complement of weaknesses, fears, problems, ego, and sensuality. But I think this is why we’re here – to work our way through all this, and, hopefully, come out a bit wiser and better for having gone through it all.
